Science-Art Installation “Melodic Pigments: Exploring New Synesthesia”

April 28 @ 16:00 - 17:30

Science-Art Installation Experiment by Yasmin Vega (Tokyo University of the Arts) and Masahiko Hara (Tokyo Institute of Technology/Institute of Science Tokyo)

Do Machines/AI Dream of Electric Sheep?
How do machines and AI perceive and recognize our world?

Humans have a condition called synesthesia, where hearing sounds or seeing letters can evoke the imagination of colors.
The installation explores whether machines can “hear” sounds and “imagine” colors. In other words, the installation asks: Can machines have synesthesia?
The experiment will use machine learning to train machines to associate “sounds with emotions” and “colors with emotions”, and then test whether they can “imagine” colors when they hear sounds.
